Here's a template I've made for planning a local LaidOffCamp. The general format for the event is an unconference from 10am - 5pm with different sessions in 2-5 rooms, lasting 30-60 minutes that are determined at the event.

The list of everyone who emailed saying they're interested in helping out with LaidOffCamp Chicago is here:

Things that need to be done in rough order (each task is its own wiki page):

  1. Set a Date (Wednesday, June 10th 1-5pm)

  2. Spread the word

  3. Find Venue (Loyola University, 25 E. Pearson, Kasbeer Hall 15th Floor)

  4. Budget

  5. Plan Job Fair (LaidOffLounge @ McCormick & Schmick's, 41 E. Chestnut Street, immediately following LaidOffCamp)

Hello, I am also with a financial company and we help people make and save money. We are looking to expand our company and we are looking for energetic people who are ready to make a career change or just tired of being tired. I am here to help any way I can.

I'm a financial advisor and I am interested in assisting those laid off in making smart decisions regarding their 401K, Cobra and other options, life insurance, and disability insurance. I can also offer assistance to those who are choosing the entreprenurial route by providing information on business financial planning and business benefits.
